A virtual birthday gift they unwrap online
A birthday box in a party-lit room, a burst of confetti, and then their photo becomes the sleeve of a record made just for them. The disc spins while a song about their life plays. Send it as a link, and it reaches them wherever they wake up on the day.
Included with your US$29.99 song. Hear your song free before paying; the gift page and Pocket Island come with it.
Birthday Record, for Dev
Illustrative example with fictional people. Words light up with the song when timing is available for your recording.
The example
Dev’s fortieth, from a hotel room
Dev bought his first record at fourteen with paper-route money, and every Saturday since he has played records while making pancakes, the kids dancing in their pajamas and track three skipping at the chorus. His fortieth lands on a work trip, so Hannah, Asha and Kai send him a record of his own to open at breakfast.

Fourteen with your paper-route money
First record in a paper sleeve
You played it till the grooves went gray
Till your mother begged you, "Please!"
Now it's Saturday and pancakes
And the kids spin on the floor
Track three always skips the chorus
So you sing it, and we shout for more
You're a long way from the kitchen
So we made a record just for you
Drop the needle, Dev
Turn it up, it's your night
Forty never sounded
Half this right
Every Saturday you played for us
Now it's spinning just for you
Drop the needle, Dev
Side A is you
You still dance like it's a wedding
With a spatula for a mic
There's some silver in your beard now
And it's catching all the light
Asha's on the backing vocals
Kai is drumming on a pan
And I'm still the girl who married
The best DJ in the land
Drop the needle, Dev
Turn it up, it's your night
Forty never sounded
Half this right
Every Saturday you played for us
Now it's spinning just for you
Drop the needle, Dev
Side A is you
One for the kitchen
Two for the floor
Three for the chorus
That skips once more
Forty little candles
Waiting by the door
Drop the needle, Dev
Turn it up, it's your night
Forty never sounded
Half this right
Every Saturday you played for us
Now it's spinning just for you
Drop the needle, Dev
Side A is you
Side A is you
Come home soon

Drop the Needle
Happy 40th, Dev! You're a long way from the kitchen, so we made you a record. Play it loud. Love, Hannah, Asha and Kai

Far away on the day
A virtual birthday gift works best when you can’t hand it over. Some ways people give it:
Want something they can play with? On the Confetti Birthday island you hide birthday surprises for them to find, and it comes with the same song. See the birthday island
- Send the link the night before, or the moment it’s their birthday where they are.
- Going to the party after all? Print the QR card at home and tuck it inside a paper birthday card.
- Make it from everyone: one song and one note can come from the whole family or a group of friends.
- They open it in their phone’s browser: no app, no sign-in, and no download unless you allow the MP3.

Questions about virtual birthday gifts
What is a good virtual birthday gift?
Something they can open on the day even if you can’t be there, and that is clearly about them. A video message from everyone, a playlist of songs from the year you met or a booked experience all work. This page’s version is a song written from your memories of them, opened from a birthday box with your photos and message.
How do I send a virtual birthday gift to someone far away?
Send the gift page link by text, email or chat. It opens in their browser wherever they are, with nothing to ship, so it arrives when you send it: the night before, or the moment it’s their birthday where they are.
Is there a birthday card that plays music?
Printed musical cards play a stock tune. This plays an original song about them. If you still want a card in their hands, print the QR card and put it inside a paper birthday card.
Can I add birthday photos as a slideshow?
Yes, up to 30. They play with the song in the browser when the page is opened; it isn’t a downloadable video.
Can they open it on their phone?
Yes. It is made for phones first, and it also works on tablets and computers.
How far ahead should I start?
Leave time to hear both versions of the song, check the lyrics and names, and make any corrections before the day. You can preview the gift page before you send the link.
