Go On, Get Going

Zoe, Mum has fixed your tassel For the seventh time today You keep laughing in the pictures She keeps brushing it away You dismantled our old toaster When you barely reached the sink Now you're off to build turbines And it's happened in a blink

There's a ticket on the counter And your case beside the stairs Every room is full of boxes And we're trying not to stare

Go on, get going! You've got a train to catch Don't wait until you're fearless We'll wave until you're past May the Lord go before you As you find your own way through Go on, get going! We're already proud of you

You built models on the table We ate dinner round the wings Then you worked the late shift Fridays Paid your rent and bought your books When that first exam went sideways You said, maybe I'm not made for this We prayed together down the phone You got up and tried again

Now your name is on the programme And you've earned that silly hat You're the first one in our family With a photograph like that

Go on, get going! You've got a train to catch Don't wait until you're fearless We'll wave until you're past May the Lord go before you As you find your own way through Go on, get going! We're already proud of you

Jesus, give her good friends And the nerve to ask for help People she can laugh with When she's hard upon herself Let her do some useful work Let her learn what she can give And when she calls on Sundays Let us listen to how she lives

Go on, get going! You've got a train to catch Don't wait until you're fearless We'll wave until you're past May the Lord go before you As you find your own way through Go on, get going! We're already proud of you

There's a sandwich in your jacket And a note from Mum there too Go on, get going! We're already proud of you Go on, get going! God go with you
